2. What larger role did she play in her community?
-She was the midwife in the community and she would be the one you would call when you were having a baby or you would call when you were sick.
3. How did Martha determine the father of an unwed mothers child?
Martha determined the father of a child when she was delivering a baby. When the baby was crowned and the mother was at most pain she would ask for the name of the babies father. Knowing the mother is in a lot of pain she does not have time to make up a lie.
4. What does this demonstrate about the status of these woman (both Martha and unwed mothers) in this New England society?
Martha was part of the judicial trial. Martha ask women during labor when the baby is crowned because they are at most pain and don’t have time to come up with a lie. So men were the ones in trouble if the they didn’t marry.
