This is my theory research
My interest area will be identifying infections among childrenup to adolescence age in hospitals or day-clinics, coming up with solutions to curb the same then doing comparisons to determine whether the intervention was effective. This will be in line with my job description which requires that I prevent diseases among children, promote the children’s health care, have home care plans in place for the well-being of children, ensure health growth and development of children and ensure that the life of children is normalized while hospitalized. My research study will conform to PICO, having a problem, interventions, comparisons and the outcomes of the study (Hastings, & Fisher, 2014). The problem under study is infections among children, the intervention will be hand washing, comparison with other unit or hospital and the expected outcome will be decreased infections and safe patients.
Infectious diseases are the cause of most children deaths. The good thing is that they can be prevented and pediatric nurses have a crucial role to play in identifying the causes and the prevention of infections among children. This is because they are equipped with vast knowledge and skills on the same. The infections may be contradicted in the children day-care facilities, in their homes or even in hospitals. Children are prone to infections due to the fact that they are not informed about what a hazard to their health is. This role is thus bestowed on parents and the children nurses. Infectious diseases are easily spread from one person to another even by a mere touch and therefore the strategies or interventions in place should encourage personal hygiene among children, their peers and even their parents. This way, we will greatly save the lives that are lost due to infectious diseases. This will be in line with the expected outcomes to ensure patients are safe and infections among children are reduced (Smith, & Parker, 2015).
From the chapter two of the book on Analysis, Evaluation and Selection of Middle Range Theory by Timothy S. Bredow, I was able to identify the theories that are most suitable for my study. When the analysis, evaluation and selection of a middle range theory is done carefully, the nursing student as well as nurses themselves are always sure to get the guidance needed for the research being undertaken (Bredow, 2009). This was arrived at by analyzing theories on nursing which were developed by scholars in the past about the theory. Evaluation involves judging the components of the theory against set of pre-determined criteria. Evaluation of a theory is very crucial as it helps measure how appropriate the theory is to the research the nursing student is undertaking. The evaluation of a middle range theory has a process that helps the students come up with the most appropriate theory (Smith, & Liehr, 2018). The theory should have adequate information, put in a clear manner, it should be consistent, have a logical development, have a consistent level of development, it should be real, should be pragmatic (operational in real-life settings), a narrow range ofscope, have significant results and it should generate hypotheses that are researchable.
This is guidelines:
1.introduction.
2.Theory. in this section you will identify and give an overview of the theory. This includes the name of the theory, author and when it was developed. You will identify and discuss ALL of the concepts in the theory and how they relate to each other.a graphic may be used to aide your discussion if desiredIdentify the concepts you will use in your study and provide rationale for their selection.
3.Research Interest.Research interest and PICO question: Briefly discuss your area of research and state your PICO question. Provide any definitions as needed. For example if you are discussing elderly you may want to define what age group you consider elderly .
Theory and Research. Discuss how the theory and the selected concepts support your research question. Note. you may have draw discuss inferences to the PICO question and concept. For example in my study of delirium I used the theory of Comfort. For the concept of nursing process I drew inferences that a nurses beliefs and knowledge affect the development of nursing interventions. The idea of beliefs and knowledge were not explicitly stated in the concept but can be drawn from that concept question.
4.Literature Review of Theory/Selected Concepts to be used in the Study.
Search Strategies.give a brief summary of the databases you used to find your articles.
Theory/ Concepts.For each of the concepts, identify the conceptand provide and discuss the articles including the following.How did the article use the concept. What type research study was it. what was the population used. I would recommend you subhead each concept so that they are clearly identified and discussed. DO NOT GIVE ME ONE LONG PARAPGRAPH WITH ALL OF THE CONCEPTS IMBEDDED IN IT OR YOU WILL LOOSE POINTS. If one article covered all of the concepts you could place those under the heading of theoryand then discuss. Based on the review of the literature discuss for each concept how you will use it questionnaire
5.Summary and Conclusions.
Summarize the key points your learned.Discuss what was learned about the theory-research-practice cycle and how does this impact your personal practice per APA style do not use first person.
