Epidemiological Rationale

Integrating spiritual care in nursing practice started in the Middle Ages and continuing with Florence Nightingale in the 1800s to the present. It has been proved that higher level of spiritual health associated with increase compliance with treatment regimes, less symptom distress, decrease pain levels, lower anxiety, enhanced quality of life, and lower mortality rates (Etnyre et al., 2006; Kaplar, Wachholt, and Obrien,2004; World Health Organization, 2006).

Nursing Diagnosis

The Nursing Diagnoses to help address patient concerns related to spirituality included: Spiritual Distress related to chronic illness as evidenced by expression of hopelessness and statement indicating concern over the recent inability to pray. Readiness for Enhanced Spiritual Being as evidenced by rejecting harmful customs and seeking reconciliation with previously estranged family members.

Readiness for Learning

The best way to assess population’s readiness to learn is by asking questions about their understanding on current subject. This questions should be open-ended, and population should be questioned what they already know about spiritual health and what they need to know.

Theory

Cognitive Theory will be applied. The participant will be actively engaged in learning process. Participants will be asked questioned about their experience and will be encouraged to find new solutions to problem.

Goal

The goal is to provide population with support, relationships, experiences, resources and opportunities. Well-designed interventions can lead to positive outcomes, including prevention of health risk behaviors.

How Does This HP2020 Objective Relate to Alma Ata’s Health for All Global Initiatives

According to Alma-Ata declaration, “Primary health care is essential health care based on practical, scientifically sound, and socially acceptable methods and technology made universally accessible to individuals and families in the community through their full participation and at a cost that the community and country can afford to maintain at every stage of their development in the spirit of self-reliance and self-determination. It forms an integral part both of the country’s health system, of which it is the central function and main focus, and of the overall social and economic development of the community” (World Health Organization, 2020).

Behavioral Objectives

1To understand the importance of spiritual health   1.Spiritual health associated with increased level of general health, hope, coping, depression, financial strain, and suicidal ideation.1.Discuss with participants their own perspectives about spiritual health and how it can be addressed to their own bodies.
2.To know the impact of a spiritual health on body system 2.Anger leads to high blood pressure and stress and how spirituality can lead to peace and forgiveness.2.The video material will demonstrate the act of negative impulsive on body systems.
3.To identify the means of reducing the threats posed to spiritual health   3.Mental health.StressHealth Conditions 3.Participant will be provided with pen and paper and they will have to draw health triangle and identify how spiritual health can be effected by physical and mental health.
4.To use appropriate community resources and referrals.   4.Support avenues to spiritual growth that are meaningful to the individuals, such as praying, meditating.4.Providing resources about local organizations such as churches, supportive groups or radio stations.

Creativity

Using visual and audio-visual material to teach is interactive. Keep everyone engaged in conversation. With use of cell phones everyone will be able to participate in a game that will help to answer questions.

Planned Evaluation of Goal

  1. Improve spiritual health by teaching about the importance of spiritual health to the body and mind.
  2. Instill a culture of controlling stress and negative emotions.
  3. Allow time for self-disclosure.
  4. Promote social contacts, and integrate family into spiritual practices.

Planned Evaluation of Goal

Evaluations of goals to address spiritual needs may be difficult to quantify. Teacher must recognize the impact of spirituality on personal health and facilitate the ability of individual is to stay connected to their sources of spiritual support.

Planned Evaluation of Lesson and Teacher

The lesson and the teacher will be assessed by filling out questionnaires. The participants also have the option of rating using stars, the highest being five.

Barrier

Lack of a common language between the teacher and the students creates a communication barrier. Individuals may have difficulty discussing personal belief and attitudes to spiritual health, personal health and believes.

Communication

To facilitate learning, care should be taken to insure physical comfort for the group. All the interactions will be minimized and class will be provided with trusting and respectful atmosphere, which will be addressed at the begging of the class. Every person in class has different values or priorities, therefore the education will be provided in nonjudgmental environment. Providing the group with health care materials, the basic terminology will be used. Teaching methods will include media, demonstrations and return demonstrations, and written instructions.
