SYG 2000 FIU Updating Drugs Addiction Policy Saving Lives of Young Americans Letter

One challenge for sociologists is to translate their knowledge of conditions producing social issues into concrete measures to improve them. In this assignment, you will work with a few classmates to gather online sources that provide data and propose policies to address a specific social issue. Then, as individuals, you will compose a letter or an online petition to send to local, state, and/or national representatives in support of a particular policy or approach. Through this assignment you will sharpen your sociological imagination and, by applying it, you will put into practice sociology’s principle that the personal is political.

Individual work

Drawing on the resources your group has collected, each student will write a letter individually to a state or local representative (US Senator, US Representative, Governor, County Commissioner, City Mayor, etc.) or create an online petition (for change.org, for example) to advocate for your viewpoint on the issue. You must describe the issue briefly. You must also take a position on the issue, supporting your position by referencing some form of data or research. This could involve supporting a specific policy change or increasing or decreasing funding for a particular program. Your letter or online petition must be grammatically correct and proofread. Your letter must include the name and address of a state or local representative. Your letter must be at least 300 words long (it is best to be concise, but still strong).

You will submit the letter individually via Canvas by the end of Module 6.

You will receive feedback on how to improve the letter or online petition. It is up to you whether or not to actually send it. Hopefully it will be something you are proud of and feel strongly enough about to send.

GCU Week 5 Vulnerability Assessment & Mitigation Strategies Question

This assignment asks you to continue working on mitigation planning for your community. You will complete a risk and vulnerability assessment (1,250-1,500 words) on your community and recommend mitigation strategies to deal with threats from selected hazards. Return to the “Critical Infrastructure Matrix,” completed in Topic 5. A comprehensive mitigation plan should incorporate all the hazards affecting a community; however, for this assignment you will focus on two specific threats, one natural and one human-caused, that are of concern to your community. Again, you might consider less obvious though still potentially dangerous hazards that are not receiving sufficient attention in your community’s mitigation plan.

Hazard Analysis and Vulnerability Assessment

Begin by providing specific details on the two selected hazards affecting your community. Provide a brief description of each one, including their historical significance, how significant of a risk they are in the community, and the infrastructure exposed to the hazards. Describe vulnerabilities that are specific to these hazards. The vulnerability assessment should include/address the following:

  1. Types and scope of infrastructure within areas of hazard.
  2. Existing methods of protection from the identified hazards. What strategies have been effectively implemented?
  3. What are the remaining vulnerabilities associated with these hazards? What needs to be done to address them?
  4. The point of contact for the community facing a hazard. At what point during a disaster do the federal, state, and local governments get involved? What other organizations may provide support?
  5. A plan to implement strategies that would ensure safety and reduce potential harm to the community from these hazards.

Mitigation Strategies

Recommend mitigation strategies to address the threats posed by these hazards. Include the following:

  1. An evaluation of current procedures, policies, and regulations that are in place to protect the community from these hazards.
  2. Mitigation strategies to protect the community.
  3. Identification of the resources needed to implement strategies (including financial, personnel, etc.).
  4. A preliminary cost estimate or budget necessary to implement the strategies.
  5. Potential sources of federal, state, or local resources available for implementing the mitigation plan.

The Matchlock Gun as a Boys Book Essay

must read the source that I assigned below only. outside sources that I don’t provide are not accepted and I will request for a refund.!!!

i need it to be a an analysis its a literature class

The Matchlock Gun (1941) is a novelization of a historical event as the author’s preface makes clear so be sure to read it. Thus the book is a historical novel which, as my presentation A make clear, usually has the didactic purpose of drawing a lesson from the past that the author believes is necessary to emphasize or relearn in the present. It is also a boy’s book which usually has the didactic purpose of presenting to the male protagonist a challenge which shows what is required to be a man.

You may choose a focus for this assignment. If you wish to analyze the novel as a historical fiction, choose option A. If you prefer to analyze it as a boy’s book, choose option B. In either response, you may consider how the illustrations contribute to the didactic impact of the story.

Option A: An Historical Novel:

The “present” for the original readers of this book was the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. If you have studied European history, you will recall that in 1939 World War II broke out, a war in which Nazi Germany fought Great Britain, Russia, and other European nations. After the outbreak of in 1939, the American public found itself with conflicting opinions: it disliked seeing the Nazi state triumph over European democracies like Great Britain, but it also hated the idea of Americans fighting and dying in a foreign war. From 1939-1941 fierce debates raged in public whether to choose intervention or neutrality. On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and the Americans declared war on Japan on December 8. Although not involved in the Pearl Harbor attack, Nazi Germany declared war the United States the same day. The United States in turn declared war on Germany. Thus Edmond’s book appeared in 1941 during the debate over intervention vs. neutrality. What didactic lesson(s) would you deduce from the book applicable to the period 1939-1941? Respond with an essay of about 200-250 words.

Option B: A Boy’s Book

Edward, the protagonist in the book, finds that he and his family is in the middle of a crisis when their farm and the farm of other European settlers in the Mohawk Valley come under attack from a Native American tribe, the Iroqouis. Because his father has left the farm, 10 year-old Edward is the only male remaining with his Mother and sister. When an Iroqouis raiding party actually attacks the farm, Edward must act. Happily for himself and his family, he acts successfully.

Write description of Edward in this story. What lesson(s) about how to step up and assume a man’s role in the crisis would a boy reader carry away? What is Edward like before the crisis? What motivates him to act? How did he know how to act? Who, if anyone, guided him in the proper action? How does Edward feel afterward? What needs to be remembered from this event. Respond with an essay of about 200-250 words.

GEN 499 UArizona Global Campus Wk 1 Human Health Effects of Air Pollution Reflection

Reflect: When considering a research topic, consider an interesting topic that is worth further research. For instance, having a strong opinion on a specific topic may deter you from thinking more critically, and therefore the research might end up being one-sided. It is a good idea to pick a topic in which you can provide a good argument for both sides of the societal issue.

Write: For this discussion, address the following prompts:

  • Identify a global societal issue from the following list that you would consider researching further for your Week 5 Final Paper:
    • Climate change
    • Pollution
    • Religious conflict and violence
    • Rise of artificial intelligence
    • Lack of education
    • Unemployment and lack of economic opportunity
    • Government accountability and corruption
    • Food and water security
    • International drug trafficking
    • Poverty and income inequality
  • Describe effective methods you used in identifying and narrowing down to just one of the topics to further research for your Final Paper.
  • Explain three ways you can critically analyze sources to determine if they are scholarly.
  • Summarize information from at least two scholarly journal articles from the Ashford University Library that will support your claims for your chosen topic.
  • Explain why scholarly sources should be used to support your writing on the selected topic.
  • Download and attach a PDF copy of one of the peer-reviewed scholarly articles that you found from the Ashford University Library to your answer using the “Attach” function located below your response.

MGT 450 UArizona Strategic MGT Strategic Planning & Strategic Thinking Discussion

Prior to beginning the discussion, read Chapter 1 of the course text for a tangible understanding of strategic methods. Read the UPS Holiday Season Fiasco: A Failure of Strategic Planning (Links to an external site.) article.

Strategic planning is crucial to an organization’s sustainability. According to Abraham (2012), how does strategic planning differ from strategic management, and where does planning fit in the development of a strategy? According to research, how should an organization’s strategy influence the business model?

Supporting your findings, how did the fear of losing market share affect the implementation and management of their organizational strategies? Research UPS and FedEx and describe the strategic changes made since the 2013 event. Based on the strategic models described in the course text, what type of strategy supports growth and sustainability during an ever-expanding or changing demand?
