University of Southern California Epilepsy Discussion

Please write a discussion and respond to this 2 peers’ Discussion Prompts

Discussion:

  • Describe two secondary data sources that you might consider using for your signature assignment.
  • Identify and discuss a funding source that might be appropriate for this type of research topic.
  • Respond to at least two of your classmates’ or instructor’s posts. Give your classmates input on the secondary data sources they have chosen. Are there any other funding sources they might consider?
  • ALL citations and references needs to be APA 7th edition format. THANK YOU

My signature assignment is a Research Study Question about Epilepsy.

Epileptic individuals are in many cases linked to having seizures and convulsions that affect their well-being. What are the social effects that the situation brings to an individual living with epilepsy?

Peers# 1

The two secondary data sources I might consider using for my signature assignment include: Publicly Available Data Sets: those allowed by governmental agencies to anonymized data sets (also called deidentified data sets) that have had all potentially identifying information removed from the files (Jacobsen, 2017) for instance, data from CDC regarding obesity in children The other option is using clinical records from the school, for that I would apply to gain access to patient records for research purposes (Jacobsen, 2019).

A funding source I think might be appropriate for this type of research is self-financing. I think that as people do some savings to pay for their college, travelling abroad or buying a car, same can happen with a study. Likewise, using platforms such as Kickstarter of GoFundMe is a great to obtain funds for your study without getting into the bureaucratic paperwork (Renwick & Mossialos,2017).

Self-financing your study gives you independence, although it is true that funds may be more restricted; it gives you more control over research directions, since, often times those who fund the study have different interests and can influence on the direction you want to give to your study.

Peers# 2

The topic I chose for my signature assignment is “Antibiotic Resistance a Public Health Issue”. For my project I would like to develop these points: 1) Surveillance systems of antibiotics use and resistance. 2) How human use antibiotics? 3) How they deal with antibiotic-resistance in healthcare settings? 4) is antibiotic-resistance in the food chain. Therefore, my first secondary website will be; www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov (Links to an external site.) which is a website of National Center for Biotechnology Information that “advances science and health by providing access to biomedical and genomic information” (NCBI – NIH, ). Further, this data source was created on November 4, 1988, their basic research is a national resource for molecular biology information, and they are able to to develop new information technologies in order to understand the fundamental of molecular and genetic processes that control health and disease. Additionally, they “conduct research on fundamental biomedical problems, they maintain collaborations with several NIH institutes, academia, industry, and other governmental agencies. They foster scientific communication, they support training, they engage members, they develop, distribute, support, and coordinate access to a variety of databases and software for the scientific and medical communities. Lastly, they develop and promote standards for databases” (NCBI – NIH, 1988).

Moreover, antibiotic resistance is a public health concern around the world, thus I chose this other data source to work on my signature assignment; www.canada.ca/en/services/health.html. This is a Canadian government data source that focus on health science and research activities, opportunities for funding “I might refer to them to funding my research”, and professional development, partnerships and investments in research. In addition, they monitor surveillance reports, databases, programs on food, drugs, radiation, diseases and infections.

Nevertheless, the funding source I might use for research topic would be; Research Affairs: Grants & contracts /Houston Methodist https://www.houstonmethodist.org (Links to an external site.). At Houston Methodist, they practice Leading Medicine through integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and a commitment to excellence. They make the research innovations that grow from the partnerships of their clinicians and researchers accessible to patients, as quickly and safely as possible. They invite you to be part of their transformation and interdisciplinary research team.

To do a job analysis on the best way, we need to follow the steps below:

  • Identify the purpose: we need to know the exact purpose of JA to help us to select the right methods.
  • Select the analyst: we will select the analyst to build a group/team, it could be someone from the HR team like an HR Professional or line manager.
  • Select the right method: we must understand the JA and know the advantages and disadvantages for each method to choose the appropriate one.
  • Train and couch the analyst: we must train the analyst on how to use the selected method on the best way.
  • Preparation of JA: we must prepare all the required documents that are essential in the JA process, and to communicate with the target employees.
  • Collecting/Gathering information: we need to collect the date regarding the job tasks and responsibilities, work conditions, skills & abilities and behavior by using the selected method.
  • Review: we need to make sure it’s an accurate and valid.
  • Develop the JD and person specification: lastly, we need to develop the JD such as the tasks and responsibilities, and the person specification such as the KSA and qualification required.

San Jose State University Quality of Leadership Discussion

Answer 1

The quality of leadership is quite critical to a business enterprise (Honeyman, 1982). It is because the performance of a business entity depends heavily on the skill set and experience of a leader to manage and control the employees, the business processes and perform negotiation with stakeholders. Apart from this, the leader is also responsible for encouraging employees for productivity improvement and personal growth. In this direction, the leader can motivate an individual to develop innovative products and services which can enhance the organization’s ability to compete in market competition. Further, the leader is also responsible for establishing a healthy and prosperous working relationship among employees by establishing effective communication, which is translated into the organizational culture. Discussing this, it is evident that certain leadership behavior can improve and sustain an individual or a group’s performance in a positive manner. For example, a servant leadership style can equip employees with knowledge and skillsets by sharing knowledge, where a democratic leadership style can promote group discussion for generating ideas through brainstorming. An autocratic leadership style can give inefficiency by redefining roles and responsibilities. Therefore the leadership behavior can be correlated with the performance of the organization and its employees.

Product and process innovation are critical for a business entity to differentiate itself from the market competition (Fritsch & Meschede, 2001). product innovation implies the design and development of a product or service that is distinguishable from others in terms of cost, physical properties, performance quality, and other factors. Product innovation at times to fulfill the necessities of a customer by market survey. The purpose of product innovation is to attract customers and improve market share. Process innovation employees change processes to improve performance metrics such as cost, quality, time, and variety. Process innovation simply intends to change the manner in which a product is manufactured to reduce cost and increase the efficiency of the manufacturing unit. It must be noted that process innovation does not intend to change the product but rather how the product is made.

Answer 2

Organizational performance is the fifth aspect of the model, reflect on the question, do certain leadership behaviors improve and sustain performance at the individual, group, and organizational level? Please explain your response.

Organizational performance relies majorly on the skill level of leaders, most specifically when it comes to strategy adoption. How leaders behave is directly related to one person, group, and organizational performance. Actualizing organizational objectives comes with many hindrances making it vital for leaders to be flexible in their issues with people, groups, and the entire organization. Also, organizational performance relies on employees who are an important component of any organization and create the team in charge of actualizing organizational objectives. The organization can achieve the desired strategy or vision by communicating the ideas with employees. A good leader should have social, cognitive, and emotional intelligence (Learmonth & Morrell, 2017).

There were two types of innovation addressed this week (product and process innovation), please note your own personal definition of these concepts and offer an example of both.

Innovation refers to the process of developing good and new ideas and ensuring they work technically and commercially. There are two types of innovation which include product innovation and process innovation. Product innovation brings a new or relatively improved service or good concerning its characteristics or expected use. It consists of important enhancement in technical requirements, components, materials, integrated software, user-friendliness, or other operational features. For example, the first electric cars given to the market were innovation and the latest batteries with larger ranges (Spector, 2016).

On the other hand, process innovation adopts new or relatively improved production or delivery technique. It integrates relative changes in management practice, techniques, software, or equipment. For example, a groundbreaking was when Henry Ford came up with the first moving assembly line. The changes shortened the required time to offer a single vehicle from 11 hours to 80 minutes (Spector, 2016).

Walt Disney Company Corporate Strategy Discussion

Textbook:

Strategic Management: Concepts and Cases: Competitiveness and Globalization , 13th Edition

Michael A. Hitt; R. Duane Ireland; Robert E. Hoskisson

Mini Case 2 chapter 6

Walt Disney Company Corporate Strategy

The Walt Disney Company has pursued a related diversification strategy by capitalizing on the synergies among its movies, TV shows, media distribution channels, theme parks, and consumer products. Disney’s strategy is successful because its corporate strategy, compared to its business-level strategy, adds value across its set of businesses above what the individual businesses could create individually. In addition, the corporation has broad and deep knowledge about its customers that is a corporate level capability in terms of advertising and marketing. This capability allows it to cross-sell products highlighted in its movies through its media distribution outlets, parks, and resorts, as well as consumer product businesses.

Brainstorm several examples of links across Disney businesses, such as movies based on theme park rides and retail products based on film characters. Why is this strategy successful in creating value?

Case Discussion Questions

Your minimum writing content for all four questions must be at least 300 words.

2 points will be deducted if not provided.

1.  What corporate diversification strategy is being pursued by Disney? What evidence do you have that supports your position?

2.  How does the corporate office create a parental advantage, which is difficult to duplicate by its more focused competitors?

3.  What are synergies and economies of scope and how do they work at Disney to lower its overall costs?

4.  Given the diversification approach that Disney uses, what are some things they can do to deal further with the trend toward cord-cutting and competition from large streaming and content producers such as Netflix, Amazon, and other content producers?

Miami Dade College Identity Formation In Society Morrison Peer Review Discussion

https://s3.amazonaws.com/scschoolfiles/112/sula-to… link to article ⁞

Instructions

Write a few sentences (about 100 words) integrating a quote from any of the articles that you will be using in your paper. Be sure to connect your quote to the rest of your sentences. You can do this via signal phrases (“Smith argues” OR “According to Smith,” etc) or by integrating your quote as it grammatically fits into your sentence. Document your quote by using the MLA in-text citation guidelines you have studied in this lesson.

When you are done posting your response, reply to at least one classmate in no fewer than 75 words. Comment on how effectively they have integrated a quote.

Here is an example to help guide your response:

John: Hi everyone,

Here is my paragraph with the quotes I integrated into it:

On Sula’s deathbed, she expresses to Nel her thoughts about the lifestyles and conditions of the women in Medallion. “You think I don’t know what your life is like just because I am not living it? I know what every colored woman in this country is doing.” Even though Nel wants Sula to settle down and have children, Sula takes pride in her choice not to conform. “Dying just like me. But the difference is they dying like a stump and I’m going down like one of those redwoods. I sure did live in this world.” Sula says everybody’s life is a journey to death, yet she believes her course to be nobler than that of her peers. She knows she is living her authentic self, and she does not live for appearances.

Emily: Hello, John. I think you did a great job on your paragraph. I think the quote can be put into the sentence by using commas and introductory phrases. This can help tie together your argument and the quote so that it flows. Also cite the author and let the reader know what page you are talking about. Your essay seems like it is going to be very good!

Professor: John, this is a good point about Sula and her desire to live authentically. Emily makes a good observation. You haven’t integrated your quote into your discussion, and you haven’t cited the page numbers from the novel. To integrate the quote, you need punctuation and signal phrases. Here is an example of how to integrate and cite from the novel:

On Sula’s deathbed, she expresses to Nel her thoughts about the lifestyles and conditions of the women in Medallion: “You think I don’t know what your life is like just because I am not living it? I know what every colored woman in this country is doing” (Morrison 93). Even though Nel wants Sula to settle down and have children, Sula takes pride in her choice not to conform. She continues by telling Nel that the women of Medallion are “[d]ying just like me. But the difference is they dying like a stump and I’m going down like one of those redwoods. I sure did live in this world” (Morrison 93). Sula says everybody’s life is a journey to death, yet she believes her course to be nobler than that of her peers. She knows she is living her authentic self, and she does not live for appearances .***when you do the first part send it to me so i can post it and send you a classmate’s post for the response****

Hooters Story Two Women Daily Encounters Play Analysis Paper

1) What is the story? Briefly describe the plot. 1/3 page

2) Discuss the themes and relevance of the story. What is it trying to convey? 1/3 pg

3) Pick a scene from the play and one character in that scene. Analyze the scene as the actor that is responsible for portraying the role and address what’s below in first person POV, as opposed to academically analyzing it from a distance or analyzing it from an audience point of view. Discuss the Given Circumstances that are important to your (as the character) overall problem in this scene. What are you dealing with (Given Circumstances) and how would this influence your exploration of this role? Important note- do not write about YOUR personal given circumstances, you are to write about the character in the story! ½ pg

The way I am looking for you to respond here is in the first person, knowing that you the actor are being asked to step into the character’s shoes. Using the Break of Noon as an example, it will look something like this: “In the scene between John and Ginger, I am going to analyze the scene as though I am the actor playing John. Ginger is my ex-wife, and we had a tumultuous relationship. I was a bad husband and not the best father and I know she still holds on to a lot of how I used to be…”

4) Write out a possible GOTE sheet that you would explore in rehearsals as you investigate the life of this role in the scene from #3 above. ¾ page

This continues just like above. “My goal is to try to convince Ginger that I have changed…”

I’m sorry that there’s only an online version to read the play, the link is
