Organizational Leadership Discussion Question

Building a Diverse Team:

In the article “Top Ten Tips On Managing Diverse Teamshttp://www.managementtoday.co.uk/news/1181428/top-ten-tips-manage-diverse-teams/

the author, Simon Mitchell a Managing Director in the UK, defines ten ways to lead a successful “diverse” team. Joanne Sujansky in her article “The five biggest traps to avoid in leading a diverse grouphttp://ehstoday.com/columns/ehs_imp_37148 explains some major traps that a group leader can encounter when leading a diverse group. Compare the tips and traps with those given in your reading for non-diverse teams and determine where they differ and then apply the information to the following scenario.

You have are the vice-president of a growing candy company located in an area of town that is home to many Hindu and Muslim people. There are a growing number of local women being employed on the manufacturing floor of the business. Recently, health and safety concerns have been raised by the company’s health and safety committee asking that women wearing bangles, Sari’s or veils and long covering clothes to remove them and change into “safety attire” when entering the floor. The Hindu women do not want to remove their bangles as it is a mark of their marriage and the esteem to which their husbands hold them, the greater the value and quantity of the bangle the greater the esteem. The bangles however, can easily get caught in mixing machines causing injury to the wearer as evidenced by a recent accident. Veils and long clothing have similar problems with getting caught in the machines, as well as carrying dirt and food particles around the floor. In the case of clothing however, there are religious reasons for their being worn. As the company thus far has had no diversity issues arise they have asked you to set up a team to handle all diversity issues in the company now and in the future.

Who would you select to be on the team and how would you structure the team members to solve the present issue and those they may come in the future? Be sure to explain why you choose a particular person given the article and reading.  Remember you are not limited to the selection of people from the company alone. Outside help can be considered as well in your selection process.

Part 2 project

Turn in Part 2 of the project.

The second part of the project, due at the end of this unit, requires you to identify and describe internal controls in the business process that you documented for Part 1 of the project.

  1. Start with the document turned in for Part 1. Review each stage of the process and identify where an internal control SHOULD exist. Then, determine if a control actually DOES exist. Extend your document by creating a new section at the end that explains the nature of the internal controls currently working and that identifies controls that should be put in place. As this exercise involves a single business process, include only manual (i.e., human) and application-level IT (i.e., system) controls. Use the guidelines below for your documentation and make sure to reference your system flowchart.

    Documentation Guidelines of Existing Controls:

    • Identify the risk the control mitigates.

    • Detail if the control is manual or an application-level control.

    • If manual, identify the person(s) involved and explain what they do.

    • If an application control, classify the control as an input, processing, or output control and explain how the control works.

    Documentation Guidelines of Missing Controls:

    • Identify the risk not covered by existing controls.

    • Propose an internal control that would mitigate the risk. Make sure to include the same information from the guidelines for existing controls documentation.

  2. Discuss general IT controls with a member of the organization you chose who is knowledgeable in this area. Identify and document five general IT controls important to the organization.

Documentation Guidelines of Existing General IT Controls:

    • Identify the risk the control mitigates.

    • Classify the control as one of the five types listed within your textbook: 1) personnel policies, 2) file security controls, 3) business continuity planning, 4) computer facility controls, or 5) access to computer file.

    • Explain how the control works.

After adding the requirements from Part 2 of the project to the original document submitted in Part 1, the amended document should be 8–10 double-spaced pages and will be evaluated for content and professionalism. Make sure to proofread, and then proofread again. Even ask a friend or relative to read for ease of reading and proper use of grammar/spelling. Submit via course Dropbox by the final day of the unit.

Country Overview (Population, labor force, literacy)

Ethical issues in labor conditions

Government policies regarding labor

Cost of labor

Distribution of labor

Overview of Format
Note that your text should be double-spaced, 1-inch margins, with indented paragraphs.
Do not double space between paragraphs. Case analyses should contain headings for each
section to organize your document. Both case analyses and homework should be
approximately two pages in text length (500-600 words), but may have supplemental
attachments such as charts and tables, appropriately labeled. Every case and homework
will be submitted to the assignment link in Moodle, but please bring a copy to class for your
own reference.
References
You should have a title page and a reference page for every case submitted. Cases will general
come from the course textbook, so you should have an appropriate reference to the text each
time you use a case from it. I’d suggest using APA format for all of your work as most business
journals adhere to APA.

1) A title page and reference page should be provided for all homework assignments.

(2) APA format should be followed for the citations in the text and for the references.

(3) Use headings and subheadings to organize your work.

(4) Cite the sources of your information in the text of the document (Radebaugh, et.al, 2014) with full references at the end.

(5) Make use of the online resources provided in the Moodle forum, with reference to the text.

(6) Limit your quoted material.  The rule of thumb for quotes is (a) don’t quote unless there’s no other way to say it; (2) Quote only for impact.

(7) Write in 3rd person objective…recall this is a brief for your firm.

Follows the format
(Title page, references, length, etc.)

Project Team and Stakeholder Management – Essay

Read the project case for this assignment.

As the project manager for the District 4 Warehouse Move project, you will need to determine who your stakeholders and project team members are for this project. Remember that anyone connected to the project who has an interest or stake in the project should be considered as a stakeholder. This would include the project team, vendors and management among possible others.

After you have determined who your stakeholders are, determine who will need to be a part of the project team. Develop a 2-3 page paper (650-750 words) in the form of a Microsoft Word document, not including the header and reference pages, defining the following:

  1. How will project communications and interactions work between the project manager, the stakeholders and the project team?
  2. What are some of the issues you, as the project manager will need to be concerned about in forming the project team?
  3. What, if any, situational factors exist that may affect the project team’s performance?
  4. What are some project pitfalls you will want to watch out for as you execute this project?

MKTG Question 8

Review the Case Study (Going Green) on page 46 of the attached PDF and answer the following questions. Minimum 250 words and 2 references. No format required. The questions DO NOT count as part of the word count.

The airport at Long Beach is a low-ranking historical treasure. Tourists will never flock to see it, but it does incarnate and vivify a time in the recent past. The airport at Long Beach is also a business. That may lead its directors to initiate remodeling and expansion plans that will destroy the airport’s original essence.

  • Is preserving the natural world like the preservation of a historical architectural treasure? If so, why? If not, why not?
  • Using standard arguments against the business responsibility to preserve the natural world (free use, domination and progress, geological time), make the case that progress should be allowed to destroy the Long Beach Airport’s historical authenticity if that course of action is profitable.
  • Using standard arguments in favor of the business responsibility to preserve the natural world (preservation for human welfare, for future generations, for the sake of the thing itself), make the case that the Long Beach Airport should be preserved.
  • If the airport is preserved, who should pay? Why?

BPM

DUE: 10.21.14 @12:00PM

You will select the process you will use in this Assignment. You will prepare the

foundation for your project by identifying a real-world organization that would

benefit from applying the business process management (BPM) model in the

workplace. You may select the organization where you currently work OR where

you previously worked. If possible, you should strive to choose an organization and

process that you have knowledge about. If you select an organization that you do

not have direct contact with, be sure you can gather sufficient information (via a

library, the Internet, or by interview) about the organization and its operations.

It is important to select a process that will provide a good basis for applying the

various phases that you will be learning. To get a better understanding of what is

coming up, it is recommended that you carefully read the two and a half page

summary of the 10 phases that starts on page 106 and ends on page 109(See attachments below). This may give you an idea of what type of questions you will be asking about the process you select. If you have any issues trying to open the attachments, Please, let me know ASAP.

For this Assignment, write a paper that includes the following components (use the

subheadings below):

Organization

Identify and provide details regarding the organization for which you will be

presenting information about the BPM model. Include the company name, location,

size, and primary business area (What does the business do?). Also, describe

what connection you have to the organization, if any. If not, explain how you will

gather information about their operations.

Process

Describe the business process that you have selected, as you did in the

discussion. Clearly state:

1. The objective of the process.

2. The scope (Where the process begins and ends).

3. A brief description of those involved.

In order to ensure the process you select is rich enough to support this project;

your answer to the items in the following checklist must be “yes.” Briefly explain

each item:

● Significance: Does this process have some strategic significance or a

significant impact on the operations of the organization?

● Scope: Does this process have various stakeholders, in addition to multiple

people involved in its execution?

● Clarity: Is it possible to identify and list the steps in this process, from

beginning to end?

● Outcomes: Are there specific goals and deliverables associated with this

process that can be listed and measured?

Justification

1) Why should the company undertake a BPM project on this process (what

are some triggers)?

2) How can this business or organization benefit the BPM model?

Grading note: In the grading rubric there is a section on analysis and

critical thinking. The points in this section will partly be based on your ability to

apply the concepts discussed in your Assignment to the specific circumstances

and details of the process/organization you selected. Writing in general terms,

without applying the concepts and analyzing your specific project, may get me

points in the content section, but will lose points in the analysis section.
