Table 8.1 in your textbook highlights various techniques used in persuasive messaging, including foot-in-the door, low-ball, door-in-the face, reciprocity, etc.  After examining all the techniques, choose three to address in your discussion. For each of the three, describe the processes involved, and explain why such techniques are successful in persuading certain audiences, but are likely to fail with others. In addition, examine the overall resistance to persuasion. Although they may be undesirable, are we more vulnerable to these messages than we think?

Table 8.1 Persuasion Techniques: Definitions and Examples
Technique Definition Example
Foot-in-the-door An initial small request is made and accepted. A large request, the target request, is then made. You are asked to sign a petition to support blood donation. After you sign, you are asked to donate blood.
Low-ball An initial request, the target request, is made, but only later are the full costs revealed. You are asked to volunteer 20 minutes of your time. Only later is it revealed that the time will involve blood donation, with accompanying needles and slight pain.
Legitimization-of-paltry-favors Small favors are described as acceptable, although not desired. A small donation to support blood donation, just $0.25, is acceptable, although a larger donation would be appreciated.
Reciprocity A request is made after a gift has been given. After receiving a cookie you are asked if you would be willing to donate blood.
Door-in-the-face A large request is made and refused. Then the target request is made. You are asked if you could volunteer 2 hours a week for the next year. When you refuse, you are asked if you could spend just a half hour now donating blood.
That’s-not-all A large request is made, but before the individual can refuse additional incentives are added. You are asked to donate blood, but before you say no you are told you will get a cookie and a sticker and your name will be published in the paper.
Scarcity A potential customer is told that an item will be at a certain price for a limited time, or that there is a limited supply. On “Black Friday” a big box store offers TVs at half price but only until 10 a.m.

Legal Case Help Please

 Hostile atmosphere for one gender

The atmosphere at Discrimina, due more to the influence of a few employees, not the owner himself, is markedly hostile to women. Rita Land and Shirley Baker are the only two women employees in the plant. Rita, who does billing and bookkeeping, needs to go onto the plant floor to tally up parts and make sure items have been shipped. She has warned Shirley Baker not to even go onto the shop floor. Unless the owner is present, Rita is at risk of being harassed with rude or suggestive comments. Rita maintains a tough exterior, but she has had to pay over $5,000.00 for counseling and medication to overcome the depression and fear that her doctor says is caused by the harassment.

Questions

  1. Review Rita’s problem in the light of Sexual Harassment laws and related cases.
  2. Next go over the legal case “Harris v. Forklift Systems, Inc.,” 510 U.S. 17 (1993).
  3. In a Word document, evaluate whether Discrimina, Inc. would likely be held liable in court for Rita Land’s counseling and medication expenses if she sues.

SEC 571 security

(TCO B) The Open Systems Interconnection model is inherently inefficient. On the source host, each layer must take the work of higher layers, add some result, and pass the work to lower layers. On the destination host, each layer must process these results from lower layers and pass the appropriate information to upper layers. Surely this wrapping and unwrapping process is inefficient. Assess the security advantage of this layered approach. (Points : 40)

(TCO C) Wkh dqvzhu wr wklv txhvwlrq lv hdvb. What is the plaintext? What cipher was used? Assess whether this would be good for today’s security programs. If not, what would be good to use and why? (Points : 40)

After reading about attacks on servers similar to the ones used in one of your company’s departments, the CIO has asked you to come up with a report as to what, if any, steps should be taken with your servers. List and describe the steps you would need to take in order to complete a detailed report.

need like now!!

Genre, a category of artistic production characterized by similarities in composition and style, is a term used to discuss literature, music, art, and film. It is particularly useful in critical applications because it distinguishes a work within a context of similar works. In film, we are familiar with certain broad genre categories such as horror, science-fiction, romance, and drama.

Understanding genre helps provide the viewer with certain expectations about film. For instance, the film The Conjuring trailer (Version 2) is of the horror genre and thus can be discussed in context with other horror films. More specifically, it is of the sub-genre, supernatural horror, so it can be discussed in context with, say, The Exorcist trailer. Making this distinction enables the audience to situate their reaction within a particular framework.

Such framework is important to our work here. In this discussion

  • Identify a film and classify it according to its genre (or sub-genre). Include a link(s) to a trailer or scene(s) from the film.
  • Discuss the conventions that are typical in films of that genre (or sub-genre).
  • Explain how this specific film meets the expectations of its genre.

200 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. APA style
