Project 1: Develop Cloud Orchestration and Automation Report

In this project, you will develop BallotOnline’s Cloud Orchestration and Automation Report that will be used to configure and then deploy BallotOnline’s cloud infrastructure using a cloud orchestration and automation software solution. In addition, you will deploy computing resources, databases, developer tools, a machine learning solution, messaging, storage and content delivery, and websites and web apps in the cloud.

Project Tips

As per the announcement you will be choosing ONE of the Project 2 seven use cases to implement in CLoudFormation, and test as per associated AWS guides.

Step 2 – HPC Cluster. This one is pretty tough to develop CF template for. I found some in AWS/GitHub and they are pretty big, and I got template errors when trying to create stack.

Step 3 – Redshift data warehouse. There are sample template in AWS. I am OK with you using them. You may test the deployment manually as per user guide.
If you want to use Redshift Query Editor, use the DS2.8xlarge instance for cluster. If you want to use SQL Workbench/J you need to set it up as per the guide.
Load tables from an S3 bucket using the tickitdb.zip sample. Take screen shots.

Step 4 – Jenkins server. You may try finding/creating an AMI with Jenkins installation and create a CF template to instantiate a build server, then connect to it and configure as per the guide.
This will meet requirements. More ambitious project would be to use CloudFormation app deployment feature – see https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSCloudFormation/latest/UserGuide/deploying.applications.html
to install Jenkins.
