English 101Spring 2022Final Portfolio/Reflective EssayDirections: In place of a full final portfolio, this semester, I’m offering the opportunity to write a reflective essay. The reflective essay will be like the reflective introduction you did in the midterm portfolio, except that I will ask you to broaden the scope a bit away from just talking about the specific written pieces included in the midterm portfolio to the course as a whole and who you are discovering yourself to be as a writer.For your reflective essay, use the following questions to compose a personal essay of roughly two to three pages in length (double spaced, 12-point font, 1” margins). You don’t need to answer every question; instead, use them as a jumping-off point for an essay that reads as one complete document (NOT a series of bullet-point answers to questions). Think about how you want to present your reflection and which questions will best reflect the message (your thesis) you want your readers to understand.Questions to consider:1. Where did you start your journey as a writer this semester? What experiences had you had before starting English 101 with writing, and how did they help or hurt you develop your skills as a writer?2. What concepts/ideas did you learn about this semester that you had not encountered before, and how did you utilize them in your writing/thinking inside and outside the class?3. What writing assignments have you done this semester that you feel most proud of and why?4. What revision techniques have you used in your writing this semester, and how effective have they been in making you a better writer? Share an example or two to support your point.5. How was it working with other writers in peer review and workshop groups to improve your writing this semester?6. If you were to offer advice for future students coming into this English 101 class, what would that advice be to help them succeed?7. Of all the writing and classroom activities you conducted this semester, which one(s) will you remember and take with you to your future classes at BMCC and beyond?8. When it comes to your skills as a writer, do you think you have improved over the course of the semester, and how/where do you see this improvement? If not, what do you think might have helped you to improve?9. Any other thoughts you have related to your life as a writer and student this semester?
