INSTRUCTIONS OF HOW TO PREPARE THE ASSIGNMENT (THIS PROFESSOR IS EXTREMELY SPECIFIC)

Use Times New Roman Type, with 12 cpi. Margins may be half an inch or one inch. Include the question (single-spaced). Then space two lines, and include your answer, single-spaced. Space two lines, and write out the next question, etc. NEVER use more than double spacing anywhere in your assignments. I HAVE THE FILES OF THE CHAPTERS. FILE IS TOO LARGE TO UPLOAD. I WILL HAVE TO SEND ONCE ASSIGNED TUTOR!!!!!!

A. Answer the following study questions based on Chapter 5 of the textbook:

1.Why is behavioral change said to be very important in evaluating social work practice?

2.Why may the direct measurement of behavioral changes be a relatively rare outcome measure in social work evaluation?

3. Why is the direct assessment of behavioral change not exclusively linked to behavioral interventions?

4.What does the term ‘behavior’ subsume? (p. 129) Is the notion of ‘covert behavior’ new to you? Does it seem legitimate to you to talk about measuring the occurrence, magnitude frequency and duration of a feeling or thought? Why or why not?

5.Why may behavioral observation be difficult?

6.Describe any two guidelines for behavioral observation.

7.Distinguish between a time sample, a client sample and a situation sample.

8. When would recording rates of behavior be a suitable outcome measure? Describe an actual clinical situation wherein using ‘rate of behavior’ an as outcome measure would be useful.

9. Describe one practical way you could use an instrument of some sort to help record behavior.

10.Describe three ways you can maximize the reliability and validity of behavioral data.

11.Describe a clinical situation in which a frequency count would be a useful outcome measure for evaluation purposes.

12.When observing a client’s self-injurious behavior on a one-hour videotape, one caregiver recorded 80 instances of SIB, and the other rater recorded 60 instances. What is their interobserver agreement? Is this satisfactory for evaluation purposes? Why or why not?

13.Describe a clinical situation in which a measure of duration of behavior would be a useful outcome measure for evaluation purposes. Be creative.

14. When observing a child’s tantrum, one observer recorded it as lasting 180 seconds, and the second said it lasted 165 seconds. What is their agreement? Is this satisfactory for evaluation purposes? Why or why not?

15. Describe a clinical situation in which a measure using interval recording would be a useful outcome measure for evaluation purposes. Be creative.

16.A client displaying frequent delusional statements agrees to wear a portable tape recorder during a daily 60 minute period over lunch time while in the hospital. This 60 minute recording is listened to by two independent data recorders and they note the presence or absence of delusional statements for each one minute period. They agree on the presence of delusional speech for 53 of the one minute periods and disagreed on seven of them. What is their agreement? Is this satisfactory for evaluation purposes? Why or why not?

17.What are some advantages and disadvantages of recording behavior in analogue situations?

18. Write out a thoughtful question about this chapter.

B.Please watch this 5 minute videoclip on defining behavior and answer its questions.

1. What are the two primary operations/criteria to determine a behavior?

2. When we define a behavior, we should avoid ______________

3. Provide your own example of a behavior.

4. Write out your own question about this video.

C.Answer the questions associated with Chapter 6:

1.What are IRSs? Describe their four variants.

2.What are some advantages of IRSs? Disadvantages?

3.Pick a client target or issue of interest to you. Describe how you would construct an IRS dealing with this issue, with a client. Using your word processing system, draw out your IRS. Be detailed, and follow all the steps described on pp. 161-168.

4.Describe how you would select who, when and where to collect data.

5.Write out a thoughtful question about this chapter.

D.Answer the questions associated with Chapter 7:

1.What is a standardized scale (SS) and how may they be used in evaluating social work practice?

2.Distinguish between a unidimensional and a multidimensional SS.

3.Describe some advantages of using SSs, and possible disadvantages.

4.What are some considerations which go into the selection of SSs?

5.How can you determine the face validity of a SS?

6.How can you maximize the accuracy of information obtained from using a SS?

7.What does clinically significant improvement mean?

8.What is meant by a clinical cutoff and how may these be used?

9. Write out a thoughtful question or comment about this assignment.

E.Go to the Walmyr.com website. Report on one unidimensional rapid assessment

instrument you found there. Use at least 50 words, do not simply name the SS. Do not buy one of the measures. Just summarize what you learned from the scale’s description, and from looking at the incomplete sample scale.

Go to another website found in this chapter and report on a second assessment scale you located. Use at least 50 words, do not simply name the SS. Provide a URL that directly leads to the scale.

Follow the steps below to access the PsycTESTS database. Locate an instrument of interest to you, and tell me what you found. Include a citation.
