School counselors support teachers in the classroom by providing brief lessons on topics such as interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and career and college readiness. The school counseling core curriculum consists of specific lessons intended to help students achieve the desired competencies and to provide all students with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills appropriate for their developmental level. In addition, school counselors attempt to align their lessons to the core curriculum in order to preserve instructional time.
Using the “School Counselor Lesson Plan Template,” develop a lesson for a core curriculum that presents a school counseling topic of your choice to a diverse student population in a PK-12 grade of your choice. Within your lesson plan, be sure to use differentiated instructional strategies described in the ASCA National Model for the school setting you have chosen.
