1) Despite its glamorous Hollywood image, criminal profiling has a reputation for underperforming among criminologists and researchers. How might newer versions of criminal profiling that utilize modern technology change the game and be more effective in catching criminals?

The DQ response must be at least 200 words and should have at least one reference in APA format

2) Write a 100-word response to each student in first person as if you were writing it to the students. Talk about how you agree with their ideas and add your own thoughts. Make sure it’s respectful.

Student 1) When you look at criminal profiling when it had first begun with very limited access to resources. As criminal profiling has improved it got to the point that there are more resources that can help in ways of being faster. The author focuses on methodology of criminal profiling in a way that it is utilized in a hybrid profiling model wherein the initial processes are deductive in nature of statistical analysis is performed to identify common patterns and characteristics. The newer version of criminal profiling utilizing technology changed the game by having different sectors that focuses on one area. The six sectors begin with the attack signature, attack method, motivation level, capability facto, attack severity, and demographics. Looking at the processes of four they come to the point of how they are going to approach the issue and solve it as soon as possible.

Student 2) Hollywood definitely glamorizes the image of being a criminal, but out in the real world that is hardly the case. Criminal profiling has not always been the best that it could have been, but now there are many new ways of criminal profiling that are very useful. One of the most important areas is DNA, and thanks to new technology it has been made way easier to catch a criminal. DNA is now able to be stored for a longer period of time and it is being used to solve cold cases from decades ago. That must be a very satisfying feeling knowing that as a criminologist you finally have the correct resources to be able to close a case. “As technology has progressed, scientists have been able to create these DNA fingerprints with much smaller DNA samples, meaning that a suspect can be identified from a drop of blood instead of a pint”, (May 2018). With these new improvements only a drop of blood is needed to be able to pinpoint someone to a crime. DNA collected from a rape victim is much easier to collect and with new technology it is easier to separate the DNA, and that is huge win for technology and all of us as a community.
