**NOTICE**
My Group – A DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) Group for Veterans with PTSD and a comorbidity with substance abuse. The name of the group is called V.O.T.E.R (Veterans Outpatient Therapy Environment of Recovery)
My Section – Middle Middle
You are answering the questions in the EPA pertaining to middle middle. And then you need to relate the activity that was chosen that works for my group (veterans with ptsd and comorbidity of substance use)to another group
For this assignment, the task is to develop a group activity for your population.
Once the students have identified the kind of group activity they would like to develop,
they will begin the process of planning the activity (Brandler and Roman, Chapter 6).
The areas to consider in program development include needs assessment of the
population served by the activity, a description of the activity and its relevance to
addressing those needs, phase issues in the use of the activity, the therapeutic value
in using this activity, and modifications of the activity for use with at least one other
population.
Each student will demonstrate the use of the group activity they have chosen.
Students not presenting will participate in the activities as members of the proposed
group. After the activity (about an hour in duration), all students will critique the
program, noting its appropriateness to the population served, its usefulness in
addressing the needs of group members, its relationship to the group phase, and the
ways in which the group worker successfully or not so successfully engaged the group
members around the purpose of the program/activity. The class will also consider
issues of applicability to diverse populations including people with disabilities.
Students will be graded on:
- their attention to professional roles and boundaries
-
their ability within the group to develop mutually agreed-on intervention goals and
objectives - use of research to inform the selected activities
- their preparation for the group
- use of empathy and other interpersonal skills
- selection of an appropriate intervention
- facilitation of transitions and ending for the group
- attention to diversity
- evaluation of the intervention
Example: Students might design a group activity for people with substance use problems
and could plan a group activity to be used in beginnings specifically for adolescents who
have been mandated by the court for crimes related to prescription drug misuse. One of
many “ice- breaking” activities, games, or exercises might be appropriate for this group in
which there are likely many resistances for members in sharing their personal
experiences with others before trust has been achieved. Using the same field of practice,
substance use, students could instead create a group activity for a middle phase group of
women who have lost custody of their children as a result of substance use disorders.
This group activity might involve the members in role playing focused on fantasizing the
various challenges and solutions they may encounter when their children are returned to
them.
A total of 10 pages for this paper. In all the written
assignments, there should be consideration of elements in the work related to cultural and
other forms of diversity. Considering the biopsychosocial factors, the student will identify
strengths, potential stressors, and areas of inequality and injustice faced by the group
members. All assignments also require the student to be self-reflective and self-critical.
For this paper, the student will find and read a minimum of five peer-
reviewed journal articles dealing with some aspect related to the material discussed,
incorporate ideas from these readings into the paper, and cite these articles in
accordance with APA standards.
No plagiarism as it will be uploaded via safesign (plagiarism checker). easy vocabulary. I will be attaching textbook that needs to be included and cited, as well as the manual for DBT, AND a powerpoint of the group. RUBRIC(EPAs) will also be included
