Introduction
A homegrown Islamic terrorist is a U.S. citizen or resident who converts to radical Islamic extremism and plots and commits terrorist acts or fights for the jihadist movement both inside the United States and in foreign countries. Some recent incidents in this radical Islamic terrorist movement have included the following:

Use of the Internet to contact other individuals involved in the same brand of radicalism or planning the attack over the Internet.
Methods of operation focusing on large-scale bombings or use of explosives aimed at disrupting communication and/or transportation hubs; a common motive of discontent toward U.S. policy, particularly focused on the Iraq and Afghan wars.
Association with Anwar al-Awaiki, a U.S.-born, radical cleric who is directly tied to Al-Qaeda and spreads a strong, anti-U.S. agenda.

Articulate whether you, as a police administrator, believe it is important in your community to hire recruits with specific training in terrorism or whether training could be provided on the job.
Predict the type of training you would institute as the leader in a police department to ensure that your departmental employees were as prepared as possible to confront homegrown terrorism.
