In chapter 3, access to health care is described as the ability to obtain health services when needed. However, with the passage of the Affordable Care Act, there is still a lack of adequate access for millions of people in the United States. Access to health care has two major components. The first component discussed in the text is the ability for individuals to pay followed by the availability of health care personnel and facilities that are close to where people live, accessible by transportation, culturally acceptable, and capable of providing appropriate care in a timely manner and in a language spoken by those who need assistance. The first and longest portion of this chapter dwells on financial barriers to care. The second portion touches on non-financial barriers. The final segment explores the influences other than health care (in particular, income and race) that are important determinants of the health status of a population.Initial Post GuidelinesIn your initial post to this discussion topic, you should create a substantive response to the following questions:Why did the uninsured population increase between 1980 and 2012?Does everyone have a right to healthcare?
