In lecture this week you learned about ways to define “family” and examined a variety of family types and structures that are prevalent in the United States today. In your reflection this week, please address the following prompts:Identify the family types/structures you are most familiar with. In so doing, consider the family in which you grew up, the families of childhood friends, and the families within your neighborhood. For instance, consider whether the family you grew up in was a nuclear family, blended family, single-parent family, etc.Explain whether you think your own personal experiences with certain types of families may affect your assumptions or lead to any potential biases in your work in the human and social services field. For instance, if you grew up in (and had a positive experience with) a blended family, how might this impact your work with other blended families? Or, if you grew up next door to a multi-generational family you had very negative experiences with, how might this impact your work and assumptions about other multi-generational families?
