FICTION REVIEW due April 12
- On_the_Rainy_River.pdf (1.397 MB)
- Sample_Review__The_Things_They_Carried_.rtf (19.808 KB)
First of all, I’ve included a copy of the story “On the Rainy River,” which is one of the stories by Tim O’Brien in the collection The Things They Carried. I think most of you probably read the title story in high school. You don’t have to do anything with “Rainy River” except read it. The next document listed is from Academic Onefile and is a review of the O’Brien collection, including the two aforementioned stories. You will notice that the reviewer covers some of the stories’ summaries, main characters, theme, etc., but he also deals with what he considers the “abstract subject,” courage and fear. With this in mind, and using his format, read one of the three stories I’ve included and then follow the instructions for writing the review about it. I’ve tried to include a variety, with the Saki story being from 20th century England, and the other two by American writers. Ellen Gaitskill is a little more “contemporary” than Vonnegut but may not be for some tastes. If you start a story and don’t really like it or think it’s something you can write about, then switch stories.
The instructions will be enclosed in the attachments. also I will have the sample articles enclosed and the story that I have choose for the assignment…
Thank You so much
