App Development Project: A phone app can teach youth about app development. Girl Scouts of

America is developing a new STEM badge system. One STEM badge that has yet to be developed is

associated with app development. Students will create an app. Educational materials are specifically

designed to be compatible with the Girl Scouts of America new STEM badges and should include

instructions on how to make the app, instructions on how to use the app, and a new app development

curriculum that could be adapted as the App STEM badge criteria. The partner for this project is Girl

Scouts of West Central Florida. The project is targeted at elementary/middle school students. Hardware

may also be integrated using Arduino and tools used to integrate this hardware with Microsoft Power

Apps.

Objective 1: The user must be able to learn through programming and by using Microsoft Power Apps

platform. Although the bulk of the app may not be user programmable, some coding is required on the

part of the end user.

Objective 2: The app must include content that educates youth on either math or science.

Objective 3: The final app that is created should consist of at least 4 unique pages that can all be accessed

from a home screen through 2 clicks or less.

Objective 4: The final app must be accompanied by an educational activity through Microsoft Power

Apps that teaches users at least in part how the app is created.
