MJ661 Organizational Management
Lesson 2: Homeland Security; Foundations of Police Organization
Activity 2: Weber’s Management Principles (100 Points)
For this Activity you must analyze a police department using Weber’s Principles of Management. Your Activity responses should be both grammatically and mechanically correct, and formatted in the same fashion as the Activity itself. If there is a Part A, your response should identify a Part A, etc. In addition, you must appropriately cite all resources used in your response and document in a bibliography using APA style. Also, remember to attach a copy of the organizational chart and of the policies of the department you have selected. These copies will not be included in the minimum number of pages required. (100 points) (A 4-page response is required.)
Choose a police department, either your own department or another. Many departments are available on the Internet. Whatever department you choose, you must find and attach to your paper the diagrammed chain of command. If and when you refer to policy, you should attach the policy as well. Below is a copy of the organizational chart for Oakland’s Police Department.

As you know, Weber theorized five principles of bureaucracy. You must analyze the organizational chart, policies, and department in general within his framework. For each of his principles, you must state whether, in your opinion, the department is in compliance with Weber’s principles and explain your answer. You will probably want to address the subtopics of these principles as well. Your answer must be complete, and you must address each of the five principles. You may find that some of the principles require more explanation
