Moral arguments

For this discussion board, think of a moral argument that you or someone else you heard use in the past week. Break the argument down into its premise(s) and its singular conclusion. Explain why it is a moral argument, i.e. be sure to include and label both a descriptive and a prescriptive premise (see page 291 in our text).

Example Argument:

P1 (Prescriptive premise): People who aren’t in poverty ought to help those in need.

P2 (Descriptive premise): There are many people who live in poverty in Uganda.

Conclusion: Therefore, people who aren’t in poverty ought to help people in need in Uganda.

Your Post!

In 2-3 paragraphs:

  1. What was the argument? Why is it an example of a moral argument?
  2. What were the descriptive and prescriptive premises? (at least one of each). How do you know?
  3. What was the main conclusion?
  4. Evaluate the argument (pages 292-293).
