A country faces a variety of threats to its national security. National security threats range from conventional threats such as other states to unconventional threats, including that of non-state actors. The nature of these threats include terrorism, espionage, cyber threats and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction amongst others. National defence has been described as the ability of a country to both protect and defend its citizens.
