- Categorize all the different foods and beverages you consume, by food group, and be certain to also include the amount consumed within each food group. (You can refer to pages 44-45 for help with your categorization and estimating number of servings/amount consumed.)
- Prepare a table/graph that contains: description of each food and beverage, estimated amount (# of servings) consumed. (See sample provided below)
- Compare your food/beverage intake against the USDA Food Pattern amounts in Table 2.3 shown on page 43. Specifically, compare your intake against the recommended amounts suggested from each food group. (You can select the kcal amount that you think approximates your typical intake.)
- Provide a typed Summary Statement about what you see in reviewing your 24 Hour Food Record. Your comments should include whether you consumed foods from each of the food groups; did you consume more/less than recommended per food group; are there any food groups that are completely missing; comment on the quality of the foods you consumed such as whether they are among the ‘healthy’ or ‘limited’ foods (for this part you can once again refer to Figure 2.2 on pages 44-45. Your Summary Statement should be at least 1-2 paragraphs in length.

PART B – Review Your Food Labels (worth 3 points)
Review the packaging of the foods/beverages you recorded for Part A in search of an example for each of the three different label claims: a ‘Nutrient Claim‘, a ‘Health Claim‘ and a ‘Structure-Function Claim’ – please refer to page 60 to review the specifics about these three categories of label claims. Also, page 61 has three visual examples for these claims. Once selected, please identify and describe your three specific food/beverage items, and explain what you see printed on the packaging. After this review, how likely are you to continue consuming these items? Would you increse/decrease/delete these foods?
Note: In the event you are unable to find three label claims among the foods you consumed, please take a look at different food packages while at a supermarket to find an example. Select foods that you would likely consume, if possible.
Typed document is required. A loss of 2 points from the total grade may be deducted if you submit work that is not typed.
