NYU National Culturally & Linguistically Appropriate Services Discussion

The National Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) Standards in Health and Health Care with a relevant interest in public health.

The purpose of the National CLAS Standards is to develop health equity, boost quality that will help do away with health imbalances by designing plans to provide an equitable understanding of quality care, support culturally and linguistically diverse governance, and educate and inform individuals on services provided for assistance (“CLAS standards,” n.d.). However, the one that resonates with me, relevant to my interest in public health is Principal Standard. I believe that no matter what culture, background, race, or religion anyone is, everyone should be provided equal care, understanding, health care opportunities, and additional communication needs. In addition, this benefits all consumers and supports positive health outcomes. Moreover, it allows high-quality care that is respectful and receptive to the needs of diverse patients (Narayan, 2017). Furthermore, being fair and providing cultural respect allows systems, agencies, and groups of professionals to come together and work efficiently to recognize and understand the needs of individuals retrieving health material and health care.
