PurposeThe purpose of this activity is to practice different skills and strategies of the writing process and use that process to generate ideas for Essay #2. You will use the ideas you develop in the brainstorming you do here to help you develop ideas in your text-set assignment, and then the essay draft, and finally, your final version of Essay #2.InstructionsPlease complete steps 1 and 2, then follow the directions below for submitting your work.Step 1: ReadingFirst, please read and annotate the Essay 2 instructions. It is important to completely understand what an essay or assignment prompt is asking before you can begin to brainstorm ideas. If you have questions about the prompt, please be sure to post on our Community Questions/Support board or visit me during student hours. Please review the “Brainstorming Strategies” PowerPoint from Module 2, if needed. You can access the PowerPoint in the Module 2 Folder in the files section of Canvas or via an online slideshow. Click here to access the Files section or Click here to access the online presentation via Google SlidesStep 2: Brainstorming ActivitySelect a brainstorming method of your choice and use it for 10-15 minutes in order to collect your thoughts on the texts we have read so far. You should focus on how the articles connect. Be sure to use your notes and all previous work to help!Review your brainstorm and take notes on the connections you see, ideas that have potential for development, and anything else you think is valuable in terms of the ideas you are playing with in terms of connecting the different texts. Remember, the brainstorm is much more useful when we try to elaborate on the ideas and notes we created.Repeat this process as necessary, even trying different methods, until you feel as though you are ready to start building content for the text-set, specifically the argument, synthesis, and questions for research sections.***Special Note: Some of you may want to select the 4 texts you want to use for the text-set assignment first, while others may want to use the brainstorm to help you decide which 4 to use. Neither way is right or wrong – just do what works best for you! What to submit here for creditYour brainstorm (image, doc, etc.) and reflection on your brainstorm. While you may have completed multiple brainstorms, please only post one – the one that helped you the most. What did your brainstorm help you discover? In other words, what ideas do you feel more confident in exploring now that you have completed this activity? How well did this particular brainstorming strategy work for you? What other strategies are you interested in trying and why?
