What:
This assignment is is the time and place to choose the topic–and begin laying out the groundwork–for your research project. What you choose here will become your semester’s focus, so, please, choose wisely. Your proposal should address the following points regarding your topic / idea: (What is the importance of ensuring privacy in managing personal information?)
- State your proposed topic / idea–why?
- State what you already know–how do you know what you know?
- State what you think you might want to know–why?
- State your research question(s)–why?
- State your potential audience(s)–why?
- State your purpose–why?
- State your reason for choosing this topic, and possibly mention others you may have considered–how’d you get here?
- State how you believe / know how this choice will challenge you as a writer and researcher.
How:
- Please organize your work using the above numbers / questions for the sake of readability.
- Be thorough; dig beyond the surface. One way of achieving this, as noted below under “Requirements,” is to ask yourself “why” at the end of each of the questions you’re being prompted to answer. Sure, make note of the obvious answers to “why,” but then sink in and see what else you might find.
Requirements:
- Address the question “why?” for all of the questions listed at the beginning of this assignment. Take your time, and really dig into detail as you think and write. There is not a page limit, but you are definitely being prompted to develop your thinking here!
- This isn’t yet the time for formal research, but document any sources that you happen to use.
- Submit your work as a single document (.doc or .docx). Do not submit a file from GoogleDocs, Pages, etc.
