• Inspect and palpate the penis.
• Inspect and palpate the scrotum.
• If a mass is found, attempt transillumination.
• Inspect then palpate for inguinal hernia.
• Palpate the inguinal lymph nodes.
• Inspect the anus and perianal area.
• Inspect during the Valsalva maneuver.
• Palpate the anal canal and rectum on every adult.
• Palpate the anal canal and rectum on children only if indicated.
