COLLAPSE

Dr. Sturtevant and classmates,

This course provided you with the ability to assess the playing field, the competition, and your organization to develop a game-winning move. Discuss how this knowledge has changed your perspective on your company (or the company you used for the assignments) and how your new skills might be helpful for your career trajectory.

Through this course, I have understood that my past analytic job has opened my view of the strategic elements of the company that I used (BAE Systems) and how they can grow even further. Before this class, I understood the aerospace and defense contracting industry to a point. Understanding the elements that play in growing as a company has given me more insight into what can be done or should be done to get a game-winning move.

The methods that I have learned as in such M&A and other game-winning strategies are the foundation that I need to lead others into a winning game plan. I have always been a big believer in communication in life and at work. I have also learned that we can not always forget the people who make the company, as we have seen many companies do to revenue for the company. It takes a great leader to place a game-winning plan together and make it survive in the long term. Knowing how to do this places me and the others that I lead on a foundation that will last and not be broken.

The last thing that has helped me in understanding the game-winning move is knowing your competition. This is something that you must not fail at the cause; in the end, they may buy out the company you work for if one is not careful. We have seen this with great companies in the US, such as Disney, the car industry, and recent MGM. Disney was able to change that around by placing a strong CEO and understanding what needed to be done. When you see a competitor’s financials failing, that is when the game-winning move can take place.

Every company should always have a game-winning plan and should never forget to have this you need a great foundation created by values and a mission. This has been one of the best classes so far, and the growth of learning game-winning plans is essential in life and the business world.

RE: Week 10 Discussion

COLLAPSE

Hi Dr. Sturtevant and Class,

I enjoyed this fantastic course with a lot of new learnings.

Through this course, I learned about what strategy is and where it fits between the vision and mission and KPIs and scorecards (JWI, 1).

The structure of how to approach strategy both in development and implementation will be conducive going forward.

Defining the playing field was interesting to make a status on my industry, despite regularly following what is going on.

Learned a lot about different strategic moves and risks in M&A strategy, not forgetting people and culture.

Another important learning is the need to update your strategy continuously with the high rate of change and innovation in modern society.

A strategy, like with much in life, we need to evaluate risk and reward to make informed decisions.

The exercise of making a game-winning move and reducing information to fit five slides was challenging and, therefore, great learning, which pushed me to think of new alternative ways of moving the business forward.

These learnings will help me set up and start new businesses privately with a much higher degree of success.

Thanks, Dr. Sturtevant, and Class, for the learnings.

Sincerely,

Pablo
