You will write a paper of 4 to 5 full pages in which he/she will conduct an analysis of one of the primary texts read during the semester. The analysis itself should do three things: 1) make an argument about the primary text chosen which adds to an overall understanding of the text; 2) situate the argument within an appropriate critical context by giving some time to what other scholars have said about the text; and 3) demonstrate the veracity of the argument by a close-reading of specific sections of the text, which will be used as evidence and coupled with scholarship to support the student’s position or refute it (or both, if possible). This assignment requires a bibliography of at least 5 sources – one primary and 4 secondary sources.
