Students should select a case from www.case.hks.harvard.edu/. Cases can be purchased at either www.hbr.org or http://hbsp.harvard.edu/. Some are free and can be accessed through an email request at the above sites, while other cases cost approximately $7. If you have difficulty ordering, you should contact their customer service info at the bottom of this page: http://www.case.hks.harvard.edu/content/how_to_ord…
Each student should individually write a 15 page final paper (double-spaced, Times New Roman 12pt font with 1 inch margins and APA style) on this case. The final paper is an opportunity to consider the public policy class as an integrated whole, using the range of concepts, skills, and applications from your coursework and apply them to the case study selected.
Analyze the themes, concepts, and topics that arise in the case as they relate to the public policy class. There are no right “answers” to the case studies; rather, they are merely vehicles for you to consider the overarching lessons from the public policy and adminstration class.
Case studies may be complex, with many open-ended dilemmas and details. This is meant to emulate real-life public policy and administrative contexts, in which structure and information is lacking.
Last, the case should conclude with some sort of recommendation or reflection on what can be learned going forward from this case, and how current public policy issues might be addressed as a result.
