Walden University Work in Schools Behavior Analysts Discussion

Every professional behavior analyst has a great deal to consider throughout the typical work day. Staying on schedule, considering ethical guidelines, communicating effectively with clients and colleagues while providing effective treatments takes significant effort and planning. There are additional considerations and concerns when working in schools.

In this environment, the behavior analyst will need to work closely not only with the student, but with the student’s parents, school staff, and teachers. Maintaining all of these relationships while keeping applicable ethical concepts in mind is critical for effective treatment for students while keeping parents and teachers informed and involved.

For this Discussion, you will consider a scenario involving a behavior analyst assisting a teacher at a school. You will apply what you learn concerning client services and ethical guidelines for schools by specifying appropriate procedures to follow for effective assistance.

To prepare:

  • Review the Learning Resources for this week, including the required weekly media programs, to explore behavior analysts and their work in schools. Note: It is critical for you to review all media for this week prior to completing this Discussion.
  • Consider the following:
  • You are working as a behavior analyst in an elementary school, and a teacher approaches you and asks for your advice about a particular student in her or his class.

Post a response to the following question:

  • What procedures might you follow to assist this teacher?

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and identify current relevant literature to support your work.
