What policies and practices have been put in place to address the crisis?

In 2006, the Pew Charitable Trusts launched the Public Safety Performance Project (PSPP) to help states advance fiscally sound, data driven policies and practices in corrections and sentencing that protect public safety, hold offenders accountable, and control corrections cost.

In March, 2009 a report, the product of the PSPP, One in 31: The Long Reach of American Corrections, was published.

Review the first ten (10) pages of the report through the section entitled “Sidebar: An Even Wider Net”. Discuss California’s prison population crisis which led to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling of May 2011, Brown v. Plata and California Assembly Bill 109, enacted in October, 2011. What policies and practices have been put in place to address the crisis?

Your response should be typewritten, double spaced and a minimum of 3,000 words. Cite all references
