Write a 1 – 2 page report on your observations during a city Planning Commission or City

Council Meeting regarding a proposed real estate development or redevelopment project. This

can be any product type (residential, office, retail, etc.) and can be of any size of project. The goal

is for you to experience first had the city entitlement process and the dynamics of such meetings

through the presentation (developer), City officials and public interaction. I would like you to

cover the minimum in your observation:

1. The City in which you observed. Identify whether it is either a Planning Commission or

City Council hearing.

2. Name of the applicant, who is usually the developer. If the developer is not presenting,

please identify the owner’s representative and the developer.

3. Identity all commission and/or council members.

4. Include a copy of the hearing Agenda, which is usually handed out at the hearing or

available on-line from the City or County you have chosen to report your project on.

5. Describe a brief overall description of the project being proposed.

6. Describe the overall interaction between the applicant / presenter, council / commission

and public comment, if any.

7. Outcome of the hearing.

Please note this will most likely be done virtually. You simply have to find out when such

meetings are being televised by calling the city you have chosen and ask to speak to either the

building department and/or planning department for a schedule of such hearings.
