I like knowing this fact because I enjoy imagining them spreading their poetry in the same circles, workshopping their poems together. Rich was a Jewish American feminist lesbian writer and activist. Just like Lorde, she wrote about the imperativeness of speaking up, taking up space and fighting for women.This particular essay was published in 1984. She explores the intersection of gender and whiteness. She wrote, “I need to understand how a place on the map is also a place in history within which as a woman, as a Jew, as a lesbian, a feminist I am created and trying to create” (212). Consider how our body and various identities is a map, how we inhabit and explore and how Rich writes about the politics of existence.
