FINAL ASSIGNMENT RESEARCH PROPOSALFor your final assignment, you are expected to submit a final research proposal. The elements of the proposal and guidelines for each section are included below. This will also serve as a rubric. Use Times New Roman, 12’ font, double space, and standard margins. There is no page minimum or maximum. Your grade will be determined based on the thoroughness of your proposal. Even though we have been working on your proposals all semester, the final proposal should incorporate all feedback provided. Use APA format and include references. No annotated bibliography is required.1. Research Topic (5 points)This is essentially your title. It should be clear, concise, and posed in a way that indicates the research process. We’ve all talked about this and most of you revised for the midterm accordingly.2. Significance (20 points)This should be revised from your midterm based on feedback provided. Significance should answer the ‘so what’ question. Why is your topic important? What are the broader societal issues that you are addressing? This section should be supported by independent research (at least 4 sources). Length should be at least 3-4 paragraphs. At this point, the significance section should not include your personal connection to the topic; it needs to be supported by your independent research.3. Research Questions (15 points)These should be well developed by this point. However, if your literature review offers a new angle for your topic, you need to make sure that your research questions align. All elements of the research proposal should relate to one another. Make sure to revisit your questions and make sure they still apply to your overall proposal. The questions should be addressed throughout the elements of the proposal. Make sure that your questions fall in line with the proposal overall. I commented on several midterms that the questions needed to be reduced and streamlined. At this point, you should not have more than 3 research questions and they should be addressed in your literature review.4. Literature Review (30 points)Utilize at least 10 primary sources for the literature review. The literature review should include an introductory paragraph, body and conclusion.Introductory paragraph: This is where you tell me what you are analyzing in your review of the literature. In my example above, I might say something like: To examine assimilation for immigrant children, this literature review covers three primary areas: language development, income and home country. Language development looks at levels of native and English proficiency, etc etc. Basically, the introduction lets me know what your literature review is all about!Body: This is your literature review! I know in your tutorial and discussions with Professor Holm, this was examined extensively. Essentially, your review of the literature covers those main areas that are part of your research proposal. Remember, the body of the literature review, should address your research questions. It should show what research has been done on your questions, and what remains to be studied. The literaturereview should address the main ideas/concepts that relate to your topic. You should have a good understanding of what has been found about your topic upon completing your literature review. Conclusion: This is a paragraph that tells me what remains unanswered in the literature review and then that connects directly with what you propose to study. In other words, let’s say that in looking at language development and immigrant children, I find that studies do not engage with families to discuss the importance of maintaining native language proficiency for the development of English language proficiency and a stronger sense of identity. My research methodology will then address that gap. Maybe I’ll use Participatory Action Research to create a community group to address language proficiency. In essence, the conclusion is basically about what you found in your literature review and what remains to be studied.5. Proposed Methodology (25 points)This is where you are expected to be creative. If you were to actually conduct a study on your research topic, how would you do it? You need to use at least three course readings to support your research methodology. You should provide enough detail in this section that I would be able to envision what you would be doing ‘out in the field’ to study your topic. This can include community-based work, interviews, studying archives, etc., etc. Just be clear and make sure to use course readings. For example, if you decide to use CRT, you would include references to the readings, explain what CRT is, and why it is applicable to your research topic. This should be about 3-4 paragraphs.6. References (5 points)All references should be included in APA format***Hey! I will provide the three course sources that my professor asked for in the Proposed Methodology. I can also give you my powerpoint presentation on the subject to help.
