Chapter 8 discusses countries with low birth rates. Consider the population situation in Italy or Germany; very low birth rates, the OPPOSITE of what China faces. Conduct research on the causes of low total fertility rates in developed countries, and what dangers this poses for the future of these countries. Then, based on your research, choose some policies that you would recommend to countries to help achieve a sustainable society.
Write a 1 to 2 page paper responding to the following:
- What are the reasons behind the low rates?
- What policies would you recommend to a country that has a low birth rate (and therefore a declining population) that wants to increase its population growth and birth rate? Discuss at least 2 policies and make sure your policies encompass ideas that would help increase birth rates, population rates, and economic sustainability.
