A small mistake that can happen is a provider tells the patient they want to see them back in one month for a follow up visit but the message isn’t relayed to the MA. When checking out, the MA does a standard three month follow up. Using the EHR system the provider can write in the notes section exactly when they want to see the patient back. The MA just has to click on those notes to confirm, and the patient can be scheduled appropriately. Bigger mistakes can be not checking the patient’s EHR medical record and confirming what insurance they have, before scheduling for an outside referral or operation. The information is easily at the staff’s fingertips, its just a matter of checking and confirming so that mistakes don’t happen as often.ReferencePepper, J. (2020).
