You are the purchasing manager for the IT department of a midsized company. The computer system currently in use is approximately five years old. The server is inadequate for the amount of data it needs to handle, which causes the individual units to run quite slowly and occasionally freeze. In addition, most of the other companies your organization partners with have much more updated software, so there are constant problems when converting a document to the new software or having to convert it back to the old. Unfortunately, the head of the company is not particularly tech-savvy and is highly resistant to spending money on what he or she perceives as “gadgets.” Since the IT department has managed to work around these problems so far, the CEO does not see the urgency.
