Your Body Language Shapes Who you Are Ted Talk Video Analysis

Watch the Ted Talk by social psychologist, Amy Cuddy, on “Your Body Language Shapes Who you Are”.

Here is the description of the video from the YouTube site:  “Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how “power posing” — standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident — can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success. (Note: Some of the findings presented in this talk have been referenced in an ongoing debate among social scientists about robustness and reproducibility.)”

Watch this video and answer the following questions.  Be sure to give quality answers.  Really think about this and explain what you learned and what you walked away considering about with your own body language.  Do not just give a one sentence answer.

Reflection Questions:

1. State and explain two themes (ideas/concepts) in this talk.

2. What was the most interesting theme and why?  Why do you think this is important to understand?

3. Drawing on this talk, what do you think YOU need to address in your future communication (how can this lead to your success in your human experience…what stories, characters, values and/or emotions from the talk helped you realize what needs to be addressed.  In other words, what do you think you need to do to be more effective and successful with your body language in both public speaking and daily communication based on Amy’s information)?
